I have been a customer of TSO host for many years, they are doing a
"virgin media".
Putting the price up for older customers to a point where I have to
pay £80 per year for having my own domain. I just want a UK
(preferably) based I can use my own domain and e mail account.
They must have good customer service such as telephone support.
I use Microsoft Outlook 2019 on my main computer a mini tower.

When 123reg lost the plot, I moved to MythicBeasts, no regrets.

+1 for Mythic Beasts, well worth a look.

I have been using NameCheap for nearly 10 years but I also use my own
VPS hosted on Contabo.

<https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared/>

Get 3 years hosting to fix the introductory price for new users. It is
£1.56 per month plus VAT at 20%. No telephone support but good chat/forums that I have never used.

VPS for you may not be ideal because you need to create and manage your
own server. However, it gives you some independence in that you can
create 100s of websites some for tests!!

I'm registered with Namecheap. I'm hosted on Knownhost.
That's about $12/month. It sounds like TSO is hosting only.
In any case, I don't know any cheap deals to also get
good email. Many cheap hosts don't even have email service.
Or they may only provide incoming. I don't know if there's such
a thing as hosting with no website, where they're just providing
email hosting.

LCN (= Low Cost Names (lcn.com)) will register a domain for you and if
you retain the registration through them you get a few mailboxes spread
out over 100MB ( dont know the exact details)

You can connect by POP3 or IMAP

You can pay some extra if you want them to do hosting for you, but its
optional

Mythic Beasts was recommended to me last year. No complaints. The site
looks very basic but is fully functional. the support is responsive and
effective.

Mythic Beasts
Mythic Beasts looks good, far cheaper than TSO and I would like to
know, if I would like to transfer my web site to Mythic Beasts, what
is the downtime?
As TSO said they would immediately terminate my web site.

first, upload the contents to MB (make a small change so you can tell
the difference between TSO and MB versions)

second, change the DNS records for www and email MX/SPF

third, when it's working, tell TSO

out of interest, immediately based on what/when?

first-and-a-half: change your 'hosts file' (look up how to do it for your
OS) to point to the new server to test your website. eg if your domain is
example.com and your new server has the IP 12.34.56.78 you'd add:

12.34.56.78 www.example.com example.com

in your hosts file. Then your browser will talk to the new server when you
type https://www.example.com/

Test out the site, if all is good then put the hosts file back to how it was
before and you can proceed to step 2.

I just want a UK (preferably) based I can use my own domain and e
mail account. They must have good customer service such as telephone
support.
I used to use a hosting company called Falcoda, who seem to be a
reseller of Heart Internet (now part of GoDaddy). They were very cheap
(I initially signed up for three years for about £35 in total) and have
been good for about ten years ... but last year had some significant
outages which persuaded me I should look elsewhere.

I did quite a lot of research and dithering, and narrowed it down to a
choice between Mythic Beasts and Freethought, both of which ticked most
of my boxes. Freethought looks a bit more polished and end-user
friendly, Mythic Beasts looks a little less polished but perhaps a bit
more techy-friendly.

In the end I went for Mythic Beasts, largely because they were
recommended here and elsewhere, while I couldn't find anyone who had
personal experience of Freethought. The reviews for both companies are
very good.

I haven't had any problems with Mythic Beasts. Their hosting seems solid
and stable, and their EMail support is friendly and responsive. I'd
certainly recommend them.

Two friends have followed me from Falcoda to Mythic Beasts and their
experiences have likewise been good.

but support is quick and thorough.
