PSU recommendations, please

I sidelined my main PC because it was stopping at random with no
explanation.
I assumed PSU, but I had a second PC to take over (this one).
The PSU is older than the mother board (grandfather's axe).
It also isn't powerful enough to run the graphics card I bought to give me
4K for my new screen (now in use as a TV).

Anyway I need a new PSU (possibly two) which I can then use to test both
systems.

It is a long time since I built a system so I am looking for
recommendations, please, of reliable brands of PSU.

Thanks

When previous PSU started making annoying coil-whine varying with CPU
load, I replaced it with a Corsair CX550, which has been fine for
several years. My GPU is nothing too chunky (RX580 i think)

Be aware that none of the major 'accessories' brands make their own PSUs,
they're all rebrands of Chinese/Taiwanese ODMs. It really comes down to who
the ODM is (eg Seasonic and Flextronics) and the budget they got to build
it. I've had good experience with high end Corsair in servers, but couldn't
speak for the budget end - completely different ODM, architecture, etc.
TechPowerUp usually has the gory details.

Probably job 1 is to not buy unbranded, as they are likely nasty. Then it's
a quality scale based on budget (and efficiency == investment in components)

Check TechPowerUp for reviews:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/?category=Power+Supplies&manufacturer=&pp=25&order=date

They're very thorough including taking them apart to examine the
construction.

I'd go for an 80Plus Silver or higher, as a few quid extra pays back more in
terms of electricity saved. You can check efficiency in the official
database:
https://www.clearesult.com/80plus/manufacturers/115V-Internal
(also the other categories 230V internal etc)

I think Jon Gerow (aka Jonny Guru) used to do reviews for them, and
later Gamers Nexus, he's now employed by Corsair ...

Pending checking on the review sites already listed (thanks):

This looks a good price at the moment and I recognise the name.

There is also a Bronze variant £20 cheaper.

What does the team think?

Cheers

Noting that Techpowerup has not reviewed this.

Many of their reviews are old, back to 2016 or earlier.

Cheers

Not exactly a strong endorsement.
